Disability and Faith

Valuing People: Names

People with developmental disabilities, people like Sam, have taught me that each person matters. These days, we often forget about the one, about individual people – we are so distracted by all the things and the many people which call for our attention.

Costly Love

This is not the love of romance stories or Hollywood endings.   This is the kind of love that brings you to the end of yourself and then beyond.  The kind of love that takes all you’ve got during the day and keeps you up at night.  Real. Costly. Love.

Nostalgia for what is yet to come

This vision of what can be is something I long for. It’s as if I’m nostalgic for what will be, and not what was. These days, diversity in nation, tribe, people, and language are things that keep us apart.

How are you REALLY doing?

Imagine what it could be like if pat answers, out-of-context bible verses and Christian clichés were ruled off-limits at church. What if saying you’re ok when you’re not ok wasn’t ok in the church?

What Does Jesus Want of Me?

I am limited in my humanity to understand why it took me 37 years to find my husband, and why it took me 9 years to learn teaching was not for me, but I also know that in those times of waiting the Lord was doing important work.

Pray without ceasing

Jesus loves me more than anyone else could. Jesus accepts me as I am. and he is always making me better.
